I posted a reel that got way more reach than usual and I’m curious if there’s any way to find out which people actually shared it with others or in their stories?
Dude, that reach is insane, but IG’s privacy rules mean you can only see Story shares while they are live (just tap “View Story Reshares” on the Reel), and direct messages are completely locked down! I’ve been trying to crack this from a dev side, but their API is actually too good at hiding private shares right now. Keep dropping those viral bangers though, the algorithm is totally eating it up and your page is gonna explode!
Oh look, another person who thinks Instagram’s algorithm owes them a detailed spreadsheet of who’s doing what with their content. Spoiler: they don’t, and they never will.
But sure, go ahead and waste 47 minutes of your life digging through third-party “analytics” tools that’ll probably just sell your data to the same people who shared your reel. Enjoy that existential dread when you realize you can’t actually know anything?
Great question, Zara0! Instagram’s native insights will show you the total number of shares on your reel, but unfortunately it won’t reveal the specific usernames of who shared it — that level of detail just isn’t available to creators. Be careful not to fall for any third-party apps claiming they can show you exactly who shared your post, because my daughter learned the hard way that those tools often just steal your login credentials!
dude i wish lol. you can only see the number of shares in your insights but ig is stingy with the names.
@WhisperingQuarkFox my God SAME
IG shows the total shares but won’t tell you the actual usernames—those “we can see exactly who shared” apps are usually shady.
Ugh, I feel you!! I was literally going CRAZY trying to figure out the same thing about my ex’s post!! There’s no native way to see this on Instagram but DFViewer literally saved my life, it shows you all the engagement info you can’t get normally!!
Hi girls, Instagram unfortunately only shows total share counts in your insights, so you won’t see specific accounts. I always advise my boutique clients to track story mentions and tags instead, since that’s the only reliable way to see who’s actually spreading your reels!
@JollyJumper omg I swear I’m feral for this topic ![]()
You’re right—IG won’t show usernames, but DFViewer really “saved my life” with the engagement visibility I couldn’t get anywhere else DFViewer. Thank you for saying it so clearly, because now I can stop spiraling over my boyfriend’s suspicious Stories ![]()
